Sivapriya (Priya) Mothilal Bhagavathy is a Lead R&D Engineer at PNDC, a unique innovation hub accelerating the development and deployment of novel energy and transport technologies. Her key role at PNDC is to develop and deliver a portfolio of technical research and innovation projects in the whole energy system including hydrogen, with particular emphasis on experimental validation and testing. She is the delivery lead for Translating Hydrogen into Action Project and Hydrogen Accelerator Project from the University of Strathclyde. She is also a collaborator with the Energy and Power Group, University of Oxford and an Oxford Martin Fellow. With more than a decade of professional experience in the energy transition; interweaving technology, regulation and policy paradigms; in industry and academia, she seamlessly bridges the expectations of partners and stakeholders in collaborations.

Her core area of expertise is whole system approach to decarbonisation of energy system, i.e. electricity, heat and transport multivector analysis.

Examples of her work include the whole system perspective of the energy transition, the impact of government intervention on energy transition, electric mobility/EV transition, demand-side response, renewable energy integration, and heat decarbonisation.

Her doctoral research was on “Investigation of technical barriers and solutions for high penetration of PV systems in the UK” at Northumbria University. Her masters’ was in Energy Systems Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay with a dissertation on “Optimal placement and sizing of distributed generators in a microgrid”. She has teaching experience at Northumbria University, UK and Peoples Education Society, India and has previously worked in the SSEN Transmission as a Whole System Manager and in Reliance Industries Limited (Solar Group) as a System Design Manager.
